D. Lansing Taylor, Ph.D., President and CEO

Dr. Taylor is the President and CEO of Cellumen, Inc. Dr. Taylor was the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Cellomics, Inc. He was a co-founder, member of the Board, and a scientific advisor to Biological Detection Systems, Inc. until it was sold to Amersham Biosciences in 1996. Dr. Taylor was a Professor of Biological Sciences, Vice Dean of Molecular Sciences, and Director of the National Science Foundation, Science and Technology Center (STC) at Carnegie Mellon between 1982 and 1996. He was a pioneer in the development of instrumentation and fluorescence-based reagents to measure the functions of living cells. He continues as an Adjunct Professor at Carnegie Mellon. Dr. Taylor began his academic and research career at Harvard University.

Dr. Taylor is on the Board of Directors of the Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse, NetHealth Systems, Inc., PA BIO, and Celsense, Inc. He received the 1996 Computer World, Smithsonian Award in Science for the work performed by the STC on functional imaging of live cells. He was named entrepreneur of the year in Western Pennsylvania by Ernst and Young in 2001 and entrepreneur of the year in 2002 by the Carnegie Science Center and the Pittsburgh Technology Council. Dr. Taylor holds more than 12 patents.

Rosemary Mazanet, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Mazanet is presently serving as the CEO of Breakthrough Therapeutics, LLC and as acting CEO of Access Pharmaceuticals (AMEX: AKC). Previously, Dr. Mazanet has served as the CSO and General Partner of Oracle Partners, L.P. and prior to that was the Director of Clinical Research at Amgen, Inc.. In addition, Dr. Mazanet is a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and serves on the boards of several public companies including GTx Inc. and Aksys Inc..

Franklyn Prendergast, M.D., Ph.D.

Franklyn Prendergast is Director of the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center in Rochester, Minnesota, and Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. His research focus is in structural protein biology and bioimaging. He is a recipient of the E.E. Just award of the American Society of Experimental Biology and the Musgrave Gold Medal of the Institute of Jamaica. He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Sigma Xi. He earned his B.A. and M.A. in physiology as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Minnesota, and his M.D. from the University of the West Indies. Dr. Prendergast is on the Board of Governors of the Mayo Clinic and Foundation, and the Board of Directors of Eli Lilly.

Michael J. Pellini, M.D.

Dr. Pellini is the Vice-President of the Life Sciences Group at Safeguard Scientifics, Inc. Prior to joining Safeguard, Dr. Pellini was the Chief Operating Officer at Lakewood Pathology Associates, Inc., a national anatomical pathology company that provides comprehensive molecular and pathology services tailored toward the outpatient needs of surgical sub-specialists. Prior to that, he was an Entrepreneur in Residence at BioAdvance, where he was responsible for reviewing and evaluating seed stage investment proposals. From 1999 to 2004, Dr. Pellini served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Genomics Collaborative, Inc., a Boston-based biotech firm that was acquired by SeraCare Life Sciences, Inc. in 2004.

Matthew Malenfant

Matthew Malenfant is Senior Vice President, and President of North America Laboratory Business for VWR, Inc., a position he has held since January 2006. Mr. Malenfant joined VWR in 1995 and held several senior level positions in global sales and marketing prior to being named to his current position.  Mr. Malenfant graduated from Arizona State University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and a Bachelor of Science in Communication.  Mr. Malenfant was elected to the Cellumen Board of Directors in December 2007.

Dean E. Miller

Mr. Miller is a partner at PA Early Stage. He joined PA Early Stage in 1998 after gaining extensive experience with both large and small companies. Mr. Miller has led investments in and served as director of Incurrent Solutions and LearnNow, Inc. Previously, he served as the Chief Financial Officer of Adaptiv Learning Systems, a venture-backed start-up company that was spun out of the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Psychology. Mr. Miller began his career at the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, where he held a variety of management positions in operations, financial management, and internal consulting. At PA Early Stage, Mr. Miller focuses on life sciences investments. He is currently on the Boards of Directors of PlantGenix, Cellumen and VIPdesk, and is an observer to the Board of Directors of Cerionx, GelMed Sciences, Renal Solutions, and Vuesonix. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration and Psychology from Franklin and Marshall College, he has completed coursework in biotechnology at the University of California, San Diego, and he graduated with distinction from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School with an MBA in Private Equity.

LeRoy Metz, Esq., Chairman

Mr. Metz is a member of the law firm of Metz Lewis, LLC where he practices tax, business, and estate planning law. An attorney, Certified Public Accountant, and MBA, Mr. Metz counsels businesses and their owners on corporate mergers, acquisitions and dispositions, financings, and other transactions. Business clients include Zippo Manufacturing Company, New Pig Corporation, NetHealth Systems, Inc., and Cellomics, Inc.. He is past Chair of the Allegheny County Bar Association Tax Section and a member of the Pennsylvania and American Institutes of Certified Public Accountants, the Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations, the Pittsburgh Tax Club, and the Estate Planning Council of Pittsburgh.
